What is GDPR Training?
GDPR training UK teaches you — and your team — how to handle personal data legally and safely. In the UK, that means understanding and following the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, both of which are enforced by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
Personal data covers everything from names and email addresses to medical records and financial details. If your work involves collecting, storing, or sharing any of it — you need to know the rules. A data breach does not just affect the individuals involved. It can result in ICO fines of up to £17.5 million or 4% of global annual turnover, whichever is higher.
Think of GDPR training as a practical guide to doing the right thing with people’s information. You learn what you are allowed to do, what you must avoid, and what to do if something goes wrong. It removes the guesswork and gives you a clear framework to follow.
The programmes range from a quick two-hour e-learning module for general staff all the way to a full Data Protection Officer certification. Every course is CPD accredited and kept fully up to date — including the latest changes brought in by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025.
Choose Your GDPR Training Path
Not sure where to start? Here is a plain-language breakdown of every course we offer, who it is for, and what you will walk away knowing.
Staff Awareness E-Learning
For: All employees
Duration: 2 hours | Self-paced online
The fastest way to get your whole team up to speed. This module covers the seven principles of the GDPR, data subject rights, and what to do if a breach occurs. Staff can complete it at their own pace, and you get a full completion report to show the ICO if they come knocking.
Certified GDPR Foundation Course
For: HR, IT, and compliance professionals
Duration: 1 day | Live online or classroom
This is where most people start their formal data protection training. Over one intensive day, you build a solid grasp of UK data protection law — what it says, why it exists, and how it applies to your day-to-day role. Includes a multiple choice exam and a recognised certificate on completion.
Certified GDPR Practitioner Course
For: Privacy leads, auditors, compliance managers
Duration: 4 days | Live online or classroom
Ready to go deeper? The Practitioner course builds on your Foundation knowledge and teaches you how to actually run a privacy programme inside an organisation. You will work through real-world scenarios, conduct data protection impact assessments, and learn how to respond when things go wrong. Prerequisite: GDPR Foundation certificate.
Data Protection Officer (DPO) Certification
For: Appointed or aspiring DPOs
Duration: 5 days (Foundation + Practitioner combined)
The highest level of GDPR certification we offer. This is for people who are responsible — or about to become responsible — for data protection across an entire organisation. You will cover data mapping, DPIAs, breach response, and the strategic side of privacy law. Challenging, thorough, and career-defining.

Frequently Asked Questions About UK GDPR Training
Is GDPR training a legal requirement in the UK?
Yes. Under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, organisations are legally required to make sure that any staff who handle personal data are properly trained. The ICO can ask for evidence of training in the event of an investigation — and gaps in training can make any fine significantly worse.
How often should GDPR training be refreshed?
Best practice is to refresh all staff training at least every 12 months. You should also update training whenever there are meaningful changes to UK data protection law — such as the introduction of the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025. Annual refreshers also keep the ICO satisfied that compliance is an ongoing effort, not a tick-box exercise.
What is the difference between the GDPR Foundation and Practitioner courses?
The Foundation course teaches you what the rules are and why they exist. The Practitioner course — a four-day advanced programme — teaches you how to put those rules into practice inside a real organisation. Think of Foundation as learning the law, and Practitioner as learning how to apply it day to day.
Do you offer discounts for groups or corporate bookings?
Yes. We offer tiered group pricing for organisations enrolling five or more employees, and flat-rate fees for bespoke in-house sessions. Get in touch with the corporate team for a quote — it is often more affordable than you would expect, especially when you factor in the time saved training everyone at once.
Do I need any prior knowledge to take a GDPR course?
No prior knowledge is needed for the Staff Awareness or Foundation courses. They are written for people who are new to data protection. The Practitioner course requires you to hold a Foundation certificate first, and the DPO certification builds on both. We can help you choose the right starting point — just get in touch.
